Day 1 : Arrival to Brussels
Individual arrival to Brussels. Your ship is already in the port of Brussels. The crew will be delighted to welcome you on board from 15:00. Stroll a little through the beautiful old town of the capital of Belgium, past the Gothic Town Hall and the beautiful guild houses at the Great Market Square and the “Männeken Pis”.
Day 2 : Brussels — Vilvoorde — Mechelen — Willebroek
During breakfast cruise to Vilvoorde. Your first bike tour will take you via Mechelen – noteworthy here is the density of more than 300 listed buildings, including eight churches, on less than three square kilometers – through green, rolling hills, past dreamy villages and stately mansions to Willebroek. Meanwhile, your ship will sail along the Willebroek Canal to your stage destination. If interested and sufficient participation, a beer tasting (for a fee) will be organised on board.
Day 3 : Willebroek — Antwerp
From Willebroek it goes via Lier to Antwerp. The port city on the Scheldt is the world centre of diamond processing and offers numerous sights: the ornate Renaissance-style town hall, the historic Grote Markt, the seven-nave Cathedral of Our Lady and the medieval castle of Steen.
Day 4 : Antwerp — Sint Amands — Dendermonde
Today, your bike tour takes you up the Scheldt towards Hemiksem, where you cycle again after a small ascent to Rupelmoonde. Here, where the Rupel flows into the Scheldt, follow the Rupel for a few kilometres and after a few kilometres you will reach the village of Niel, which is joined by the Walenhoek Nature Reserve. Here, between Niel and Boom, lies a historic brick distillery area, where bricks have been produced since the Middle Ages until today. You will then cross the Brussels-Rupel Canal and finally come to a water tower on the outskirts of St. Amands. Your ship is waiting for you here.
Day 5 : Dendermonde — Ghent (Merelbeke)
You will cycle to Ghent, where the MS Mecklenburg moors for this night at the lock in Merelbeke, a suburb, about 30 minutes by bike from central Gent. Guests can explore Ghent’s beautiful old town by bike or partly on foot. In the Middle Ages, Ghent, the second largest city after Paris, has retained its architectural richness in the city centre to this day.
Day 6 : Ghent — Vinderhoute — Bruges
Departure for Vinderhoute in the morning. The entire current cycle route follows the Gent Oostende Canal through the vast Flemish plain to Bruges. The “Venice of the North” is known throughout Europe as a city of art and museums. Bruges’ old town with its numerous canals is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, there is still time to admire the hustle and bustle around the Grote Markt.
Day 7 : Tour around Bruges to the North Sea
Across the small town of Damme (“birthplace” of Till Eulenspiegel) and Groot Ter Döst with the remarkable abbey of Ter Doest, the bike tour leads to Lissewege, the “most beautiful village in Flanders” — whitewashed houses are here on both sides of a small canal and around the imposing village church. Afterwards, it goes straight to the coast. A long sandy beach and numerous cafés are available. After about 2 hours stay return to Bruges.
Day 8 : Departure from Bruges
After breakfast disembarkation until 09:30 hrs and individual return home.
