Day 1 : Flight from Copenhagen, Denmark – Arrival in Ilulissat, Greenland. Town tour

After arriving in Ilulissat we will check in at our hotel, Hotel Hvide Falk. Afterwards we will take a guided town tour where we walk to the cultural and historic highlights of Ilulissat and make several scenic photo stops as we go along. We will start at the historical Hotel Hvide Falk and on our way pass the Zion Church, the local fish market, the museums, the harbor and different great viewpoints among other places. All places which are important to the city or have interesting stories.

Day 2 : By boat to the World Heritage Icefjord. Northern lights and Greenlandic coffee.

After breakfast at the hotel we will get ready for the boat trip to the famous Ilulissat UNESCO Icefjord with a certified tour boat and trained crew. Experience one of the most beautiful places on earth. Ilulissat Icefjord, named “Ilulissat Kangerlua” in Greenlandic, is one of the most productive places of ice on Earth. No matter the weather, the icebergs are always amazing. The sun makes the ice shine and sparkle, while the blue colors of the ice really pops out when it’s cloudy.

After dinner we put some warm clothes on and go for lookouts for aurora borealis. Winter nights dress the landscape of Ilulissat, sometimes dotted-with-stars black, sometimes full-moon white and sometimes Northern-Lights green. No matter the color it is a landscape that will awake all your senses. While we are enjoying the fabulous view our guide will even give us a chance to warm up our evening under this privileged spectacle, by preparing a delicious cup of ”Greenlandic coffee”, a strong drink akin to Irish coffee with whiskey, Kahlua, coffee and whipped cream. Finally, a spoon of flaming hot Grand Marnier is poured on top!

Day 3 : Hike to Sermermiut plain by the Icefjord

After the breakfast at the hotel we will get ready for a hike to Sermermiut. The Ilulissat Icefjord is as beautiful as it is inaccessible in the middle of the Arctic winter. Experienced guides will choose the route with the best viewpoints for sightseeing and pictures, manage the route according to weather conditions, and explain about the flora and fauna, as well as share stories of Greenland and its inhabitants. As we put our feet in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will ascend between walls covered with snow and ice, enjoy the magnified panorama of the “dogs sledge highway”, experience frozen lakes and rivers, as well as shiny icebergs shining. During the tour, we will take a break to eat our sandwich and hot soup, before we continue to the old settlement of Sermermiut, where the first Inuit people arrived 4000 years ago.

Day 4 : Flight from Ilulissat - Kangerlussuaq

After breakfast at the hotel we will get ready for the departure from Ilulissat – Kangerlussuaq. After arrival

in Kangerlussuaq we will check in at one of our logdes, Polar Logde or Old Camp. Afterwards we will get ready for an exciting dogsled tour. To ensure you are comfortably warm during the drive, we provide the same type of outerwear and footwear that actually many drivers prefer, including warm fur clothing and good boots with appropriate insulation that can withstand the biting cold temperatures and wind. Here in Kangerlussuaq, the fjord offers the opportunity for a sledding excursion across the frozen, flat ice, which can provide a more pleasant, smoother ride than when driving across hilly terrain.

In the afternoon we will experience one of Greenland’s most beloved traditions, as you take part in a traditional Kaffemik hosted by a local of Kangerlussuaq. Historically, Kaffemik has been the traditional way to celebrate everything from baptism and birthdays to weddings and first day of school. If something calls for a celebration, Greenlanders will invite family, friends and acquaintances over for Kaffemik. Traditionally, the Kaffemik is an all-day affair, where guests will drop-in throughout the day and stay for a short period of time before leaving again.

Day 5 : Breakfast at the lodge before departure from Kangerlussuaq – Copenhagen, Denmark

After breakfast in our lodge we will be transferred to the airport where we will board to our flight to Copenhagen.
